How to react
Signs and what and what not to doThere are signs to spot if a tsunami is really coming. Some of them are obvious. Just like weather conditions. If the weather is stormy or unstable, then there is a high chance that there will be a tsunami.
Another sign is when the sea level suddenly drops for no apparent reason on the shoreline. When this happens, carefully (but quickly) observe the behaviors of the water afar. When you see a gigantic wave closing in quick, then don't waste anymore time and |
immediately run. If there are people with you then immediately warn them and encourage them to evacuate. If there are children with you, then try to carry them to a safe place. Just like the earthquake, try to abandon things that aren't needed.
During the Tsunami...It is expected that every tsunami is aided by an earthquake, during the earthquake you must drop and cover your head with any hard material or take cover under any sturdy materials such as tables. To know more about what to do during an earthquake, you may go to the "earthquake" page.
You may listen to any available radio stations that would report about tsunamis to confirm if it is safe go out. Though it is better if you have listened to the radio before the incident. |
Also, stay away from broken power lines since they have high voltage that would most likely intensely shock any human being to death.
After the Tsunami...After the tsunami, check yourself if you have any injuries and have them treated immediately (just like any other disasters).
If someone needs to be rescued or needs medical attention, try not be a hero and call professionals immediately. Watch and monitor other people around you try maintain their stress and make them under your control until professionals arrive. You may not become a hero but you might as well become a leader |
to everyone.
